Child welfare inquiries

The Needs

For children whose welfare is threatened within the family.

Where a child’s welfare is in doubt in his or her own family circle, a judge mandates our teams to assess the child’s developmental needs and surroundings as well as their parents’ parenting skills. The aim is to make a report with tangible elements, for the judge to come to an appropriate decision.

As the approach can be perceived as intrusive by families, a nuanced approach is required.

One of our staff has a face-to-face interview with the child’s parents, which can take place either in or outside the home. Teams produce a “child welfare assessment” (detailing family income, material condition, family and social network).

If needed, they can broaden the assessment and focus on psychological aspects (e.g. individual, family), which is then called a mission d’investigation et orientation éducative. In three quarters of cases, the report leads to education within the family environment.
