Housing and lodgings

housingIn France, there are over 100.000 homeless persons and 3 million persons who are living in inadequate housing. Today’s housing crisis also affects those who were previously unconcerned by this issue : retired people, students, large families, young couples, single parent families…And yet, the existing responses remain ill-adapted (promiscuous, unsafe and often under-staffed bunk beds dormitories).

Developing adapted solutions

In order to act against exclusion, GROUPE SOS develops various solutions in the domain of housing and lodgings whilst always ensuring that the dignity of each individual is respected.

  • Transitional housing: These structures offer lodgings to marginalized persons in need of stability and a place adapted to their case histories.
  • Temporary housing in the private rented sector: this setup offers an alternative option to transitional housing, reception centres and hostel accommodation for households unable to afford or access permanent housing.
  • Social residences: they allow individuals and households in distressful situations to be temporarily housed with a good prospect of acceding to permanent or ordinary accommodation.
  • Reception shelters: a place to live for homeless people who were generally signaled and oriented by the mobile intensive care units of the Samu Social (a humanitarian ambulance service operating in French cities)

We also develop innovative solutions such as inter-generational lodgings, in which we act as a go-between for young people looking for accommodation and elderly people either in need of company or of an additional income.
